Customs Officer (CO) Overview
COs enforce laws on revenue protection, anti-narcotics, anti-smuggling, IPR. They wear uniform, carry firearms, work irregular hours, may work in an area outside the HKSAR. Entry: Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects incl. Chinese and English, BLNST pass, fluent Cantonese, PFT and eyesight test.
Customs Inspector (CI) Overview
CIs lead and participate in enforcement, staff management, administration. Selection: Cantonese/English group discussion; Written Exam Part I (English, Chinese, Aptitude: 30 MCQs each in 30 min), Part II (two essay questions, one hour each); then BLNST, PFT, interview.
Selection Process Details
For CO, group discussion on current affairs (Cantonese), 1-minute individual then free discussion, ~25 min per topic. For CI, written exam and group discussion are critical. Only those who pass proceed to later stages.
Preparation
For written exams, practice MCQs under time constraints and essay writing on current issues. For group discussion, stay informed on local and international customs-related news. Maintain physical fitness for PFT.
